Sion Airlines was established in October 2006, with a strategy to develop a low cost, point to point airline hubbed in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The advantage of a hub location lies not in the intercontinental traffic, but through the traffic to the rest of the region.
The African aviation market is part of a vital lifeline in the continent's drive for commercial growth and development; it is the only reliable transcontinental transport system.
On 16th of November 2007, Sion Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The China National Aero-Technology Import and Export (CATIC) which will lead to the signing of a purchase contract of three MA 60 aircraft for Sion's operation in the DRC.
Sion Airlines business model is designed around routes which give optimal returns for the business. Their competitive advantage is that as a low cost carrier, Sion Airlines does not carry the excessive costs of the larger Airlines which typically run sub-optimal flights to feed their intercontinental routes.
The operation is focused on volume, yield and growth while providing safe, convenient and flexible connections to major hubs.
Sion Airlines uses the MA 60 aircraft which is an advanced 52-60 seats class regional turboprop. these aircrafts are caracterized by passenger comfort, operational adaptability and low operating cost making it the ideal aircraft fleet for Sion Airlines frequent short and medium haul commuter operations.
Sion Airlines ground staff and crew are carefully selected and trained to world class safety and comfort standards.
